An error was returned by the Telegram Bot API while attempting to deliver a message. The delivery failed with the following characteristics:

Error Code

Numerical value similar to HTTP status. Contains information on the type of error that occurred. In this case, the value 403 indicates a privacy violation — the message could not be delivered to the target chat.

Error Type

A string literal in the form of /[A-Z_0-9]+/, which summarizes the problem. Common values for 403 FORBIDDEN in the context of sendMessage:

  • USER_IS_BLOCKED — the recipient has blocked the bot.
  • BOT_KICKED — the bot was kicked from the group or channel.
  • CHAT_WRITE_FORBIDDEN — the bot doesn't have permission to post in this chat.
  • USER_DEACTIVATED — the recipient account has been deactivated.
  • PEER_ID_INVALID — the provided chat_id does not reference a known peer.

Recommended actions

  • Verify the target chat_id is correct and the bot is a member of the chat.
  • If the user has blocked the bot, the chat must be re-initiated by the user via /start.
  • For groups/channels, ensure the bot has the Post Messages administrator right.
  • Implement a local check using cached peer information to skip undeliverable recipients.
